The Little Kicks program follows the Canada Soccer LTPD (Lont-Term Player Development) FUNdamental stage of development. FUNdamental age group is the second stage of soccer development that our players go through. However, we have to recognize that in this stage there are players who are participating in soccer for the first time. The most important focus at this age is the continued development of physical literacy and the recognition that individual technique development is paramount. Training will be fun so that players want to go back every week.

      Practices
Individual Technical work, player and the ball. Everybody with a ball as much as possible.
General movements skills, jumping, running, hopping, skipping.
Introduction of basic skills (dribbling, running with the ball, etc.).
Games, activities, exercises should always be fun with lots of movement and activity.
Game formats can progress from 3v3 to 5v5 as the children grow.

      Games
There are no formal games in this program. The game segment is incorporated in every practice.

Skill Center U9 - U12
    • Skill Center program is the base program for all boys and girls of age U9 to U12. The program is offered year-round, in three seasons of 12 weeks each. SPRING season from January - April, SUMMER season from May - August and FALL season from September - December. Each season consists of 24 age-specific sessions with a mix of skill building activities and small sided games.
Note: U8 players might also be admitted to this program.

      Location: Carleton Place

The Skill Center program follows the LTPD (Lont-Term Player development) Learn To Train stage of development. Learn To Train age group is the third stage of soccer development that our players go through, commonly known as the โ€œGolden Age of Learningโ€.

      Organization
The Skill Center is an individualized player development program where all players will have equal opportunity and access to all coaches within their program. Practices will be set up as stations so that players move from one station to the next. In doing so, each player will get to see all coaches within the age group and all coaches will see all the players.
Players will have maximum contact time with the ball in training. Contact time with the ball will happen in game-like situations, not in isolation. The training will resemble the game to ensure realism and guide decision making. Player groupings for the stations are based on like ability meaning that stronger players will practice with stronger players and weaker players will practice with weaker players. The grouping is fluid and temporary for each session. Such approach optimizes the development of each player.
The concept of being a part of a team is not the most important part of the skill center. Taking an individualized approach to development is the priority.

      Practices
Continue to develop ball mastery in a larger environment with more teammates and opponents.
Develop the ability to control the ball and look, introduce decision-making for the next play and apply the proper technique.
Develop the ability to run with the ball towards goal and away from goal to gain space and use width.
Develop passing the ball using different surfaces of both feet.
Introduce combination plays with 2 or 3 players.
Develop shooting skills, at longer distances. Introduce, volleys, bent shots and chips using different surfaces.
Introduce the use of width at U9 and U10 and depth at U11 and U12.
Heavily use of Small-sided games, allow the game to be the teacher.

      Games
Skill Center serves as a pool of players for competitive teams. During the fall and the spring seasons, MMU will join indoor leagues in Ottawa and every player will be offered a placement in the team (additional cost). We would form as many teams as needed.

Prior to the summer season, MMU will form competitive teams based on continuous assessments of the current players, as well as Open Talend ID sessions between January and March. Selected players will play competitive games (additional cost) while all other players will be offered to play occasional summer festivals (additional cost).

Talent ID
    • Talent ID sessions are free and open sessions running from January to March. Please check the registration page for the schedule.

      Who should attend?
New and current MMU players looking to joining summer competitive teams. Current MMU players do not need to register, just show up.

Talent ID sessions are designed to evaluate each player's current skill level in a supportive and enjoyable environment. Through a combination of technical drills, small-sided games, and real-time coaching observations, we aim to gain a clear understanding of each player's abilities, strengths, and areas for development.

The primary purpose of the Talent ID sessions is to help us form teams that are developmentally appropriate for all players. By grouping players with similar skill levels and learning needs, we can ensure that training sessions are challenging, engaging, and tailored for their growth. This approach not only supports stronger team performance but also helps players build confidence and progress at the right pace.

      How to attend?
Register for the Talent ID sessions on the registration page. Arrive 10 mins earlier, dress appropriately (shirt, shorts, socks, shin guards and indoor soccer shoes). Bring water bottle and a ball. Coaches will provide feedback few days after the session. Every player attending Talend ID sessions will be offered either to join a competitive team or to register for Skill Center program.
